Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings Reignmakers Picks!
CupeMay. 23, 2023, 10:19 p.m.

Its the week after an incredible major championship, but we’ve got no time for hangovers! The field for the Charles Schwab Challenge is legit. The golf course has stood the test of time. The Reignmakers contests are a plenty. The money to be had is real. So … you know the quote, let’s dig in.

There has been a ton of marketplace activity and price movement this week so make sure to check out our site for the most up to date info on player odds and pricing across each tier: https://www.otmnft.com/reignmakerspro/market/players

Course Info

Colonial Country Club is another mainstay on the PGA TOUR venue list that plays as a par 70, 7200 yard track where the majority of the distance comes from the 4 par 3s (all longer than 190 yards) and one lengthy three-shot par 5 playing 630+ yards. The par 4s are rather standard and the greens are small therefore the recipe for success around Colonial has been approach shots and putting. You’d expect that around the green play would come into play more given the smaller than average green complexes, but those near the top of the leaderboard year in and year out tend to hit greens in regulation and roll in putts. Lastly, given course setup, off the tee play including driver distance is rather negated on this this tree-lined layout. No edge for the bombers around Colonial.

Golfer Targets

No BS the week after a major! Let’s get right to my picks. Its a very strong field for the week after a major championship with a ton of great options this week. I have to put in this obligatory sentence about the fact that if you have Scottie, jam him in, but I’m not writing up the best player in the world. Play the best plays!

As is always the case, I highlight three golfers I like each week across the odds ranges: Best odds (+2000 or better), mid range (+2000-9000), and long shots (+10000 and up).

Best Odds: Tony Finau LOW ASK, CORE $19, RARE $97, ELITE $440

  • Tony Finau is back in the field and it appears to me to be for one reason and one reason only, he likes this golf course. All season long, Tony seemingly has optimized his entire schedule around courses that he likes and that fit his game, and Colonial is exactly that. He’s never finished worse than 24th in this event in 4 years and that includes a 2nd and a 4th place finish (last year). Elite talent with great history at this event is plenty enough for me to love Tony this week.

Mid Range: Chris Kirk LOW ASK, CORE $6, RARE $23.50, ELITE $122

  • Kirk stands out to me as a solid value in the mid tier. He finished 15th at this event last year and his game has only gotten stronger. He’s best with shorter irons in his hands (he will have plenty), avoids 3 putts, and hasn’t missed a cut in his last six events. He ranks 13th on tour in Par 4 scoring average and you’ll need to score on the par 4s at Colonial. Look for Kirk to be near the top of the leaderboard this week.

Long Shot: Eric Cole LOW ASK, CORE $3.10, RARE $10.99, ELITE $57

  • First, I’m cheating the odds buckets slightly here as Cole sits at +8000 but he’s too good of a value to pass up. Cole has been playing very steady golf this season and he’s carried winning upside when he puts his game together for four rounds. His strengths are his approach game and his putting, which lines up perfectly with what you need to succeed around Colonial. Cole ranks 35th on tour in putting and 31st in approaches from 100-125 yards which the golfers will have a lot of this week. I love his price across all tiers as someone who can round out a lineup.

That will do it for this week. Best of luck in the contests as always, and I’ll see you all on the leaderboard!
