The 2023 Masters is complete and Jon Rahm has already hung his Green Jacket in a closet (after several celebratory evenings I’m sure) and is back on the practice putting green at Harbour Town Golf Links in beautiful Hilton Head, South Carolina. Jon and MANY other of the top players in the world are in the field this week at the RBC Heritage because hey who doesn’t want to play golf for a $20,000,000 dollar purse!? That’s right, we have another designated PGA TOUR event with 17 out of the top 20 players in the world teeing it up. It is a DELUXE event this week for DraftKings Reignmakers meaning that there is $350,000 up for grabs across the five contest tiers.

Course Info

Harbour Town is a rather unique setup for a PGA TOUR event because similar to most courses, approach shots will be paramount, but driving distance really won’t play a factor. On many holes, players will be opt to hit less than driver off the tee trying to place their first shot in the right place to take some stress off of their approach. Harbour Town boasts small greens meaning that they are harder to hit and therefore around the green play will also be slightly more important. Overall, given the strength of the field, I expect that we will see some rather good scores out there. Approach play, scoring, around the green, and putting will be the keys to victory. Worth noting however, last year Jordan Spieth (sadly not in Reignmakers) won this event while losing strokes putting. That basically NEVER happens, but take with it what you may.

Golfers to Target

It goes without saying, in a field this strong there are a ton of viable options. If you’re holding Rahm, Scheffler, Cantlay, Morikawa, Hovland, or Schauffele in your collection, PLAY THEM! Better yet, play them as your Captain. In the CORE and RARE contests these guys will be popular, but you can get unique with your fourth or even just your fifth golfer. Playing the best plays in Reignmakers just makes sense. Don’t overthink it.

As I do each week, I’ll continue to highlight DK Reignmakers golfers that I like using odds buckets: Best odds (+2000 and up), mid range (2100 – 9000), and long shot (10000+). Without further ado:

Best Odds: Collin Morikawa LOW ASK, CORE $19.35, RARE $99, ELITE $699

• Coming off a T10 at the Masters and a T13 at the PLAYERS, Collin plays incredibly well in designated events where the top players in the world tee it up. Additionally, he’s a top 2-3 ball striker in the world on a course that demands strong approach play. Collin struggles with the putter and like I said in the introduction, Jordan Spieth won this golf tournament last year while losing strokes putting. Look for him to gain strokes throughout the bag this week, and if the putter can cooperate, look out.

Mid Range: JT Poston LOW ASK, CORE $4.75, RARE $22.23, ELITE $225

• The mid range is loaded with good options, but I’m dipping down to reach for JT Poston because his course history around this golf course is impeccable. He finished T3, T8, T6 in three of the last four years with one missed cut coming in 2021. His game suits this golf course and he’s coming off a made cut and a strong Sunday round at the Masters (T34), 9th at the Match Play, and T10 at the Valspar. In a strong field, JT may be undervalued.

Long Shot: Adam Svensson LOW ASK, CORE $2.99, RARE $14.50, ELITE $155

• I’m going back to the well on Svensson after a missed cut at the Masters. Playing Augusta as a first timer is incredibly difficult. Prior to Augusta, Svensson hasn’t missed a cut since in two months since the Phoenix Open and he continues to gain strokes ball striking and on approach. Looking for him to take last week in stride, chalk it up as a learning experience, and get back to playing well.

I have to mention that TJ is on an absolute HEATER picking winners. He picked Conners to win the Valero (check) and then Rahm to win the Masters (check).
