Another week, another designated PGA TOUR event with all but two of the best players in the world teeing up the golf ball. Both Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler (world #1 and #2) are missing from the field this week. Imagine that conversation, “well maybe we should give the other guys a chance just to keep things interesting.” Nice guys. Quail Hollow Club should prove to be a great test this week as we march into the heart of the PGA TOUR season. Tons of Reignmakers golfers in the field (129 to be exact) meaning lots of decisions this week, so let’s dig in!

Course Info

Quail Hollow Club is a long and arduous test of golf playing to a par 71 at over 7500 yards! Holes 16, 17, and 18 are three of the hardest four holes on the golf course meaning that you never can feel too comfortable coming into the home stretch. This setup will likely make for some fantastic theater (and bone chilling pain) during the Friday cut sweat. Best of luck brave soldiers.

In addition to being long and favoring those golfers with elite tee game, there are plenty of holes where long irons will be required. Long irons typically mean that greens are harder to hit therefore play around these greens will be paramount. A short memory will also be important, as bogeys will be made. The recipe for success here is to capitalize on the Par 5s, get up and down for par when you need to, and hang on to your hat while trying to get to the clubhouse cleanly over the final three holes.

Reignmakers Contests

Two important things to note related to this weeks’ Reignmakers contests:

1. DraftKings has adjusted the payout structure for all of the biggest prize pool “Guaranteed” contests. Previously at these DELUXE events, the top prizes have been $5K in the Core 50K GTD contest, $7.5K in the Rare 50K GTD contest, and $20K in the Elite 100K GTD contest. This week for the Wells Fargo, the payouts at the top have shrunk which has enabled DraftKings to pay out more places in the contests. The top prizes this week are $3K in a smaller Core 35K GTD contest, $5K in the Rare 50K GTD contest, and $10K in the Elite 100K GTD contest. Overall I like this change as there is still significant upside at the top of the leaderboard but more chances to make money with more places paid out.
2. Portfolio gated contests are back for RARE, ELITE, and LEGENDARY tiers with more Charles Schwab experiences up for grabs. You need one of five golfers, Max Homa, Keegan Bradley, Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young, Rory Mcllroy (top 5 finishers from the 2022 Wells Fargo — which is the same as last week at the Mexico Open) to get access to these contests. Will this trend continue in the coming weeks, not sure, but overall I continue to like these additional contests.

Market Details

With 9 out of a total of 37 events completed this season (this week DraftKings formally committed to 9 Reignmakers contests after the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP including the Ryder Cup that will take us through the 2023 calendar year), I continue to be a buyer in this market. I’m enjoying Reignmakers PGA TOUR and will continue to try and piece together the right lineup for a given tournament to enjoy some weekend sweats with big money at the end. That said, marketplace pricing has continued to come down with added supply entering the market. This has made it more palatable to make purchases to bolster your collection and add lineup options. Golfers to Target

As it is every week, I’ll highlight three golfers I like across the odds ranges: Best odds (+2000 or better), mid range (+2000-9000), and long shots (+10000 and up).

Best Odds: Cam Young LOW ASK, CORE $15.99, RARE $88, ELITE $480

• Cam is still searching for his first career PGA TOUR win and this course sets up so nicely to give him an edge on just about everyone in the field. He ranks 2nd in Driving Distance, 12th in Strokes Gained Off the Tee, and 18th in Strokes Gained Tee to Green. This would be a massive week to get his first victory with 3 of the 4 Major Championships still ahead of us. Look for some big drives and circles on the card on the Par 5s from Cam this week.

Mid Range: Sungjae Im LOW ASK, CORE $15.99, RARE $65, ELITE $388.88

• I’m sticking near the top of the board this week in the mid-range in such a strong field but Sungjae Im’s iron play and around the green play stand out to me. He hits long irons quite well and he ranks 16th in Strokes Gained Around the Green which is a combination you’ll need to lean on this week. Not the longest hitter off the tee but Im ranks 11th in Strokes Gained Tee to Green. I like the way the numbers shake out for Sungjae this week.

Long Shot: Stephan Jaeger LOW ASK, CORE $3.50, RARE $14, ELITE $115

• As always, it is a sea of landmines in the long shot category especially when you consider the strength of the field but Jaeger is coming off a solid performance in Mexico and he’s gained 4+ strokes Tee to Green in 5 of his last 6 outings. He’s going to need to hit it better than usual off the tee this week to get it done and make the cut, but I like him as a flyer this week in North Carolina.
