Major Hangover – Nothing $20 Million Can’t Solve! My DK RM Travelers Picks
CupeJun. 21, 2023, 1:07 p.m.

Coming off of the controversial US Open at Los Angeles Country Club you’d expect there to be a bit of a lull on the PGA TOUR this week, right? Absolutely not. Not when there is $20 million up for grabs for the best golfers in the world. Designated events continue to prove that $$ talks. So, you know the quote … let’s get into it.

Course Info

Coast to coast, the golf season marches on. From Los Angeles to Cromwell, Connecticut the pros tee it up at TPC River Highlands, one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour, at the Travelers Championship this week. At 6800 yards, this par 70 is going to produce birdies. Additionally, look for the “All Rounds Under 70” 5 point DraftKings bonus to come into play this week. The par 3s will play on the longer end and there is one short par 4 that could be drivable for some of this star-studded field. I expect that the winning score could be in the upper teens given the strength of the field. Unlike the US Open we’ll be rooting for our golfers to put circles are the card because I don’t think pars will get it done.

Golfer Targets

As is always the case, I highlight three golfers I like each week across the odds ranges: Best odds (+2000 or better), mid-range (+2000-9000), and long shots (+10000 and up). Its a STRONG field at a course where any stat profile can win which makes this week super interesting where a lot of options are in play. I’d be playing most every lineup that you can make this week in the bigger GTD prize pool contests.

Best Odds: Patrick Cantlay LOW ASK, CORE $15, RARE $67.50, ELITE $342.69

  • Cantlay probably doesn’t have as many PGA TOUR wins as you think. He’s won 3 playoff events (BMW twice and TOUR Championship once) and 1 team event (Zurich). Beyond those wins, which are certainly impressive, he’s won Memorial twice, the ZOZO, and the Shriners’ Childrens Open. He’s due to get another victory as a full field PGA TOUR traditional stroke play event and I like his chances this week. His course history is impressive, he’s 2nd in the field in total driving, 2nd in Par 4 scoring, 1st in Par 5 scoring, and 2nd in Birdie or Better percentage at 28.36%. Women lie, men lie, numbers don’t lie. Give me all the Cantlay this week.

Mid Range: Brian Harman LOW ASK, CORE $2.10, RARE $11, ELITE $64

  • Tons of talk this week about “sticky” course history numbers at TPC River Highlands which bodes well for Brian Harman (and also my portfolio). Harman’s finishes the last five years are 8th, 5th, MC, 8th, 6th. Four top 10s in five years for those counting at home. Honestly, I didn’t look much past course history here because Reignmakers isn’t the same as DFS. In DFS we may be concerned about Harman’s ownership, but this is an example where we can just play Harman freely. My decision this week was Adam Scott ELITE or Brian Harman ELITE in my top lineup and I opted to go Harman. We’ll see how that pans out.

Long Shot: Dylan Wu LOW ASK, CORE $1.75, RARE $8.99, ELITE $69

  • The Dylan Wu bandwagon simply marches onwards. There is still time to jump aboard. Wu’s Reignmakers price isn’t the softest, which lends me to believe that people who own him are quite happy to continue playing Dylan versus selling. Generally speaking, his stat profile can be characterized as “fine” and maybe this is just my personal bias / eye test coming out here, but he continues to play above his own standard. He’s been great tee to green and the putter has looked good. If a few more putts fall this week, look for Wu to not only make the cut, but run up the board on the weekend. He hasn’t quite put the game together for 4 straight rounds and this is a great chance to do so.

That will do it for this week, best of luck and I’ll see you on the leaderboards.
