Reignmakers PGA Double Dip – Scottish + Barbasol Picks
CupeJul. 12, 2023, 3:04 p.m.

We’re about to embark on back-to-back double dip weeks on the PGA TOUR. This week, the Genesis Scottish Open and the Barbasol Championship. Two sets of DK Reignmakers PGA TOUR contests with $450K up for grabs across all tiers. This article will cover both tournaments. With that, tons of information to sift through so let’s get into it!

Course Info

Genesis Scottish Open – The Scottish Open will be played at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The course plays as a par 70 at 7200+ yards. You already know with a par 70, the all rounds under 70 DK bonus could be in play which can cause tons of shifts in the leaderboard so keep your eye out for that. In the land where the game was created in Scotland everything is seemingly going to be weather dependent. Blustery winds, rain, and other tough conditions can make for some rather difficult spots and it appears based on the forecast that the golfers will be battling the rain this week. Last year in rather difficult conditions Xander Schauffele won the event at 7 under par over Kurt Kitayama. Prior to last year Min Woo Lee won the event in 2021 at 18 under par in much easier conditions so you can see that external factors will have a major impact on scoring in this tournament. Birdies are out there but tough to make birdies in rain and 20 MPH gusts.

Barbasol Championship – The Barbasol Championship will be played at Keene Trace Golf Club’s Champions Course in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The winners of the three Barbasol Championships were 25, 21, and 26 under par respectively so welcome to the birdie fest of the week! The names in this field might look rather unknown as there are only 57 Reignmakers golfers in the field of 156 golfers. There won’t be a ton of lineups in this weeks’ alternate event so if you can make a couple of solid teams you’ll have a chance to pick up some serious cash! Keene Trace Golf Club plays as a par 72 at 7300+ yards where we see a traditional layout of two par 3s and two par 5s on each side of the golf course. News is that the course is playing a bit harder and faster but I still expect scores to be low.

Golfers to Target

As is always the case, I highlight three golfers I like each week across the odds ranges: Best odds (+2000 or better), mid-range (+2000-9000), and long shots (+10000 and up). I use the odds to simply separate golfers into tiers and highlight golfers based on price, skillset, statistical analysis, and other data.

Genesis Scottish Open

This is quite a strong field for the week before a major and with the strong field brings in a variety of options at the top of the board. As is always the case when playing in the land of golf (Scotland), conditions impact the game in a massive way. Tough conditions can help some golfers thrive while others will crumble under the added pressure that they present. Quite difficult to predict who will thrive and who will crumble, but we’re going to find out.

Best Odds: Tommy Fleetwood LOW ASK, CORE $8.99, RARE $35, ELITE $190

  • Tommy is playing absolutely fantastic golf this season and his history at this event is quite strong. Tommy can’t seem to win on the PGA TOUR so maybe his first win comes at an event that has traditionally been a DP World Tour event. I’m skipping names at the top of the board like Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and opting for a Fleetwood here based on location, experience, and course history that all lines up with a very strong stat profile: ranking 7th in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green and 29th in Putting (7th in One-Putt Percentage).

Mid Range: Matt Fitzpatrick LOW ASK, CORE $1.88, RARE $9.25, ELITE $60

  • Matty Fitz has had quite an up and down rollercoaster of a season winning where there have been rumors of injury alongside a significant win at the designated RBC Heritage. He has what can be noted as the strongest course history at this event. He’s got the experience of playing in tough conditions and I could see him playing well when conditions are the toughest. I like Fitz a good bit this week!

Long Shot: Alex Smalley LOW ASK, CORE $3.69, RARE $11, ELITE $69

  • Smalley coming off one of his best performances of the year last week and has moved up to 43rd on the FedEx Cup Playoffs points list. As we have said in the past, its not only about the current week but forecasting for weeks ahead. I think Smalley is one of the better buys deep in the odds this week that has a ton of upside this week and for weeks ahead.

Barbasol Championship

Golf is a game of variance and traditionally can be quite difficult to try to predict. I’m not going to make three specific selections for the Barbasol because when initially diving into some of the numbers you can make a case for just about anyone. You can also make a rather strong case for why you do not like specific golfers. A few guys that I personally have liked what I’ve seen from them this season at points in time are Justin Lower, Chad Ramey, Austin Smotherman, and Kevin Roy.

If you have cards where you can enter a lineup or two in this event then fire them in. I personally wouldn’t be buying cards just for this event, but that’s just my two cents.

All Reignmakers data from our site: https://www.otmnft.com/reignmakerspro where you can get every piece of Reignmakers data that you need, build lineups, analyze your portfolio of cards, and more. Check it out now!

That will do it for this week, best of luck and I’ll see you on the leaderboards.
