Reignmakers PGA Tour – Week 1 Review & Strategy
TJ LaessigMar. 13, 2023, 12:42 p.m.

What’s going on everyone! It was an eventful first week of DraftKings Reignmakers PGA Tour. I bought five packs, cashed in two contests, and sold three cards on the marketplace.

In this article I’ll quickly break down my experience as we continue to evaluate and figure out this brand new game format.

Genesis Pack Drop & Contest Details

Getting Started: Ripping Packs
The Genesis pack drop took place last Monday 3/6. I leveraged Cupe’s article here to develop my strategy, and decided to start off my Reignmakers journey by buying 5 Birdie packs. Birdie packs cost $199.99 and contain 5 cards that are all either Rare or Elite tier, with a guarantee of at least 1 Elite.

Total Investment: $1,000

After acquiring my packs, I ended up joining a pack opening party in the DraftKings Marketplace Discord (if you aren’t a member, you can join here) and opened 2 of my 5 packs. The pack gods were shining down on me, and I ripped this incredible pack that included a Colin Morikawa Elite, Keegan Bradley Elite, and Viktor Hovland Rare. This gave me a fantastic start towards being able to build a competitive lineup for THE PLAYERS Championship.

I opened my remaining three packs on last Wednesday’s PGA Preview show, in addition to my Starter pack, and ended up with a final collection of 32 cards.

Contest Strategy
Given the luck I had in my pack pulls, I wanted to focus on putting together the best lineup I could to compete in the Elite contest with a $100k guarantee and $20k to first place. I entered the following lineup:

Fantasy golf is a unique “sweat” experience compared to any other sport. We begin with the cut sweat – trying to get all of our golfers through the cut and on to the weekend. In DFS golf, it is absolutely critical to get all 6 of your golfers through the cut. In Reignmakers, it is certainly the goal to strive for 5 of 5, but given the spread out ownership percentages and the introduction of a captain position, it may not be 100% needed every week.

My lineup started off HOT, and I got all the fun of a golf sweat as I was leading the Elite contest for $20,000 all day on Thursday and most of Friday. Unfortunately, I only had 4 of my 5 golfers make the cut, and the weekend did not go as planned. That said, I still finished in 49th place, cashing for $250!

I also played 5 cards in the Core contest and cashed for an additional $5.

Marketplace Sales
Outside of fantasy contest competitions, the marketplace is a critical piece to the DraftKings Reignmakers game. I decided to dip my toe into the waters and made the following three sales over the weekend:

  1. Christiaan Bezuidenhout Rare: $66
  2. Stephan Jaegar Rare: $33
  3. Kramer Hickock Elite: $75

Bezuidenhout was leading THE PLAYERS for much of Saturday, so it felt like a great opportunity to sell high, and in general it is nice to take some profits and load up on DK Balance that can then be re-allocated for future pack and marketplace purchases.

Week 1 Summary

Overall, it was a great first week of Reignmakers PGA Tour.

Total Investment: $1,000

Contest Winnings: $255

Marketplace Sales: $174

So in the first week, I got back $429 out of my $1,000 initial investment! Not too shabby.

Looking forward to week 2, with the Valspar Championship teeing it up this Thursday.
