TJ called his shot. The buzz around the golf world is at all time highs. It was fate. It was written. Rory McIlroy wins the 123rd United States Open at Los Angeles Country Club capturing his first major title in 10 years!
I had to quickly recount the dream that I had last night for all of you. Back to your regularly scheduled weekly article.
Course Details
I’m excited to see Los Angeles Country Club on full display. Smack in the middle of the Beverly Hills of Los Angeles its unlike just about any other golf course in the world. The drivable par-4 6th hole is going to be an absolute delight to watch all tournament long. Do golfers hit mid irons to a layup area or blast fairway woods and drivers towards the green? The venue presents challenges and decisions from tee to green unlike other venues and we’re going to hear a lot about “half par” holes based on setup. Easier par-5s where birdies can be made and very difficult par-4s where players will be thrilled to make par will present excellent drama. Par at a United States Open is a fantastic score which means fantasy scoring will be slightly depressed in comparison to a standard PGA Tour tournament.
Golfer Targets
As is always the case, I highlight three golfers I like each week across the odds ranges: Best odds (+2000 or better), mid-range (+2000-9000), and long shots (+10000 and up).

Coming of three consecutive top-10 finishes where he has yet to bring his A game for 4 straight days, it would be awesome to see Rory back in the winners circle at a major championship. Mid Range: Tyrell Hatton LOW ASK, CORE $16.49, RARE $54, ELITE $325
- Hatton has been playing some of the best golf of his career as of late with seven straight made cuts in a row. Ball striking has been superb as he has gained strokes ball striking since the BMW Championship in September of last year. He will certainly have moments this week where his antics may get the best of him, but Hatton has elite upside with tons of win equity here.
Long Shot: Sahith Theegala LOW ASK, CORE $10.99, RARE $38, ELITE $175
- Sahith is a California native who’s said that he’s played LACC more than 30 times in his life. The US Open is about having slight edges and knowing the course/layout better than just about everyone seems like a bit of an edge to me. While I typically prefer experience in major championships, I think Sahith has an elite skill set and his game continues to get better and better. Additionally, he has been fantastic in making cuts. His last missed cut happened in October of last year. Look for the rookie to play well this week.
